Ethiopia and The Republic of Ireland Signed a Financing agreement on the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP IV) amounting to 10M Euro

Financing agreement on Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP 4) amounting 10 M Euro (approximately 325 million Ethiopian Birr) was signed today October 25/2019 between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Ireland at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

The Productive Safety Net Program was developing in 2004 through an intensive collaboration process between the GoE and the joint donor group including Irish Aid. In 2005, the GoE began implementing the program and targeting people in most chronically food insecure woredas in four regions namely: Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNR). The PSNP 4 program runs from 2015 to 2020 and today’s signed agreement is for the year 2019/2020.

The objective of today’s signed agreement is to enhance and improve vulnerable and food insecure households’ livelihood, resilience to shocks, food security and nutrition. At a policy level, PSNP 4 contributes to the Government of Ethiopia’s national policies including the Social Protection Policy, the National Nutrition Programme, Climate Resilience and Green Economy Plan and Disaster Risk Management Policy.

H.E. Ato Admasu Nebebe, State Minister, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Patrick McManus, Cooperation Head of Ireland Government signed the agreements on behalf of the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Government of Ireland respectively.
